Literature Text
Out beyond the reeds waits an abandoned well,
Carrying still the water few will happen by.
Should, by chance, a shadow cross and
A rare face look down within,
She'll show him what he loves best
In the hope that he'll return.
But below her water's surface
Down in the murk and mire
Lie secrets dropped from shadows past.
Shadows, who - now satisfied -
Have no reason to return.
The well, she hopes and - in silence -
Prays that the next stranger might stay a while
And entrust another secret to her murky keeping.
Yes, she knows why they come and why they go,
But she loves them all the same.
Lying still and silent,
The well, she tirelessly waits.
Won't you walk beyond the reeds
And look down in the water?
Down below the cool reflections...
Down among the unclaimed oaths.
Carrying still the water few will happen by.
Should, by chance, a shadow cross and
A rare face look down within,
She'll show him what he loves best
In the hope that he'll return.
But below her water's surface
Down in the murk and mire
Lie secrets dropped from shadows past.
Shadows, who - now satisfied -

Prays that the next stranger might stay a while
And entrust another secret to her murky keeping.

Down among the unclaimed oaths.

The First Movement
-
I left my lover on the floor,
arms bent like a lamp cord.
He said to me things were
different looking up;
the ceiling was brighter,
my eyes were lit up.
And he sank into sand tiles,
his hands were raw and waiting,
and waiting.

The Couplet and the Villanelle
The Couplet and the Villanelle
Said the couplet to the villanelle
"You, for all of your complexity
really are a vacuum and a shell
overwrought and odd, compared to me.
You, for all your cunning and your craft
your metaphors and similes and signs
conjure awkward rhymes that make me laugh
strung together in repeating lines."
Said the villanelle to couplet small
"I know I can ramble on at times
but, you know, you are inside of me
and you are complicit in my rhymes.
What's ironic though, you know... doggonnit.
both of us are stuck within this sonnet."
Literature
an augury of tears
your love is the wind
on water. mine heaves deeper
than cruel riptide.
